Business Development Engineer
J MAR’s client, a privately held oil & gas exploration and production company with over four decades of experience developing onshore North American energy projects, seeks an experienced Business Development Engineer to join its Corporate Development and A&D team.
Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Development, this position will identify, evaluate and advance acquisition, divestiture, joint venture and other strategic opportunities across multiple U.S. basins. The role combines petroleum engineering expertise with commercial analysis and market intelligence to evaluate upstream assets and support investment and transaction decisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, screen and evaluate acquisition, development, joint venture, divestiture and trade opportunities across multiple U.S. basins.
- Perform technical and economic evaluations, including well performance, reservoir characteristics, development assumptions, operating costs, differentials and other key value drivers.
- Analyze basin activity, competitor development strategies, industry trends, recent transactions and valuations to identify opportunities and areas of interest.
- Track and prioritize deal flow using technical, economic and strategic criteria.
- Conduct technical scoping of potential acquisition targets utilizing proprietary and public data.
- Collaborate with Corporate Development and A&D teams throughout the evaluation and execution of transactions, including potential divestiture opportunities.
- Develop technical and commercial analyses and recommendations for executive leadership and other stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience with an upstream oil & gas company.
- Strong reservoir, development, planning and/or asset evaluation experience.
- Meaningful experience evaluating upstream A&D opportunities, investments and/or asset transactions.
- Strong understanding of upstream development and the technical, economic and commercial factors that drive asset value.
- Experience evaluating well performance, production forecasts, development assumptions, operating costs and project economics.
- Experience with reserves and economic evaluation software such as ARIES, PHDWin, ComboCurve or similar platforms.
- Delaware Basin and/or multi-basin experience preferred.
- Experience with Enverus/Prism and other industry data and analytics tools preferred.
