REVENUE ACCOUNTING MANAGER

J MAR’s client, a privately held oil and gas exploration and production company with an active acquisition and development program, seeks an experienced Revenue Accounting Manager to lead its revenue accounting function. Reporting to the Controller, this position will supervise a small team and have responsibility for revenue accounting operations, reporting, controls and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will bring strong upstream oil & gas revenue accounting experience along with demonstrated success supervising and developing accounting staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and supervise the revenue accounting function, including workflow management, staff development, training and performance oversight.
• Oversee operated revenue accounting activities, including revenue vouchers, journal entries, cash receipts, revenue distributions and related accounting transactions.
• Manage revenue reconciliations and reporting, including cash, purchaser receivables and related balance sheet accounts; research and resolve variances and unusual activity.
• Review revenue distributions and owner payments for accuracy and reasonableness, including production and pricing variances, suspense activity and government royalties.
• Oversee state, federal and tribal revenue reporting and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Manage revenue audits and coordinate with production accounting, JIB and other departments to research and resolve accounting issues.
• Oversee revenue accruals, 1099 reporting and other periodic revenue accounting requirements.
• Participate in acquisition and divestiture activity, including revenue accounting due diligence, integration and related transition activities.
• Review and approve revenue-related transactions and payment activity in accordance with established controls.
• Establish and maintain effective revenue accounting procedures and internal controls to support accurate and timely reporting.
• Perform additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• Strong upstream oil & gas revenue accounting experience required.
• Demonstrated experience leading, supervising and developing accounting staff.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and data management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with OGSys preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex accounting and operational information clearly and effectively.
• Working knowledge of state, federal and tribal revenue reporting requirements.
