J MAR’s client, a dynamic, growth-driven Oil & Gas Company, seeks a Geologist to join its Business Development & Acquisitions team. This role evaluates new project acquisitions in the Permian, Powder River, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville areas. From screening deals to crafting detailed project evaluations, the Geologist will play a critical role in strategic acquisitions and expanding the company’s prospect inventory.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead geological aspects of prospect evaluations, subsurface/formation assessments, well planning, and drilling/completion activities.
- Integrate geological interpretation, mapping, petrophysical data analysis, and reservoir characterization to identify target zones and drilling sites.
- Focus on horizontal well targeting and landing zone assessments across multiple basins.
- Oversee quality control of structural grids and extend the structural framework across surfaces.
- Manage third-party geosteering services and related operational functions.
- Monitor drilling operations and provide well planning support, including geological forecasting and well logging programs.
- Identify and evaluate strategic bolt-on acreage opportunities and acquisitions to enhance development areas.
- Assess industry-generated prospects and evaluate acquisition/divestiture opportunities using subsurface data and mapping.
- Analyze competitor well performance and nearby activity for operational insights.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers to evaluate geological factors influencing well productivity and type curve generation.
- Provide technical support to finance, land, and operations teams as needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends and enhance team knowledge in unconventional plays and horizontal development strategies.
REQUIREMENTS:
- S. Degree in Geology.
- 5+ years of E&P experience in technical geology roles (development, well planning, or operations).
- Permian Basin experience is preferred. Multi-basin experience is a plus.
- Experience in asset/deal valuation within an A&D group or operator environment is preferred.
- Proficient in Petra, Kingdom, or similar geoscience platforms.
- Skilled in petrophysical analysis, mapping, and well log correlation.
- Experience in unconventional field development, including technical and economic analysis of spacing, targeting, and sequencing.
- Ability to construct regional and field-scale maps and cross-sections to illustrate subsurface concepts.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
- Flexible and eager to learn new skills and workflows in a fast-paced environment.
